Hi, I am Jennifer.
I have loved everything about dollhouses all my life. It is a wonderful hobby for people of all ages and all walks of life. The dollhouse and miniatures hobby has brought me endless joy, and keeps my creative juices flowing.

I truly believe that this hobby has helped me in life. It is easy to escape from reality to a place where anything is possible; and where everything can be exactly as I want it. Owning the furniture, that I can’t afford in the real world, is possible in my dollhouse.
The children of the dollhouse are perfect, they are always happy, they never quarrel, and their bedrooms are always neat and tidy. lol.
There is always something cooking on the stove and those dishes, that have been in the sink for years now, are no cause for stress.

I Built this Dollhouse for $105 using just a Few Tools

The problem I have had in the past, when building dollhouses, was getting the main walls of the dollhouse cut out.
I don’t have any big power tools for carpentry and the dollhouse walls need to be perfectly straight and have perfectly squared 90-degree angles at the corners.
One day, it occurred to me that I could use the cutting service at the local Home Depot to have a dollhouse cut out. This is a great service; they give 3 cuts free and charge $1 per cut for the next cuts.

It took a lot of thinking and figuring to make the cutting plan that I would need to take to Home Depot for the saw operator. I used Adobe Photoshop as an aid to scale down the parts and see how they would fit on a 4’x 8’ piece of plywood. I used my original dollhouse as a guide for the measurements.

I took photos at each step while buiding the dollhouse, and wrote instuctions as I went. I do not pretend to be a great carpenter, and I explain things in a girlie way. This may not be the best way to build a dollhouse, it is just my.
The cutting plan works, the dollhouse parts fit together perfectly.
I am happy to share it with you.You can download it here.

I think everyone who wants a dollhouse should have one. It was with that thought in mind that I decided to create this website. The dollhouse plans are all mine. I used the dimensions from my original dollhouse.
The plans for the original dollhouse were adapted from house plans of a real size house that we had built

The only change I made from my original dollhouse is the height. My original dollhouse has ceilings 8 inches high, I realized too late that for a dollhouse rooms higher works better. The plans for this dollhouse has rooms which are 9 inches high.

This is an English style dollhouse.

I am referring to the fact that the front of the dollhouse opens, not the Tudor exterior.

English Style Dollhouse

This English style dollhouse (above) has doors that open to reveal the inside of the dollhouse, the roof can be hinged so that you can use the third floor. This style of dollhouse has, in my view, two advantages. First the interior of the dollhouse stays clean because you can close it up.
Second, the back of the dollhouse can sit flat against a wall and doesn't need to be turned or moved at all., so it does't take up so much space.
The reason I built my original dollhouse, was because I could not find a kit like this in my area.

An American style dollhouse does not have the doors

This open back American style dollhouse is cheaper to build. A lot of money is saved on the hinges alone.
Of course you have to be able to turn it around to get into it.
It is also much easier to make, having only 5 windows only in the front of the dollhouse and none on the ends.
This dollhouse was built for a child. It is not as detailed as the English style dollhouse. The stairs are plainer and quite sturdy.
The roof does not have shingles, it is painted. The shutters on this house are made from paint stir sticks.
